As a musician who has played in most parts of the world with some of the worlds top bands for the last 40 odd years I find the decision to stop the Lordy Sunday Jam as extraordinary. The Sunday Jam was there not only for the enjoyment of every body that attended but also to give up and coming young and old musicians a chance to do there thing in front on a live audience. Gibraltar is a small place but its musical talent out ways its size and the Lord Nelson Sunday Jam sessions was one place in Gibraltar they could shine. The Lordy became a place where musicians would meet, get to know each other and even form new bands in fact it became a family of friends. The Navy, Army who come to Gib would head strait to the Lordy knowing there was live music and Jam, there musicians getting up and jamming there mates egging them on. If all this is to be lost in favor of a theme night/disco/solo artist on a Sunday night it will be a great shame. I have noticed that the Lord Nelson has gone through more Managers than most of us have had hot dinners, maybe employing someone who knows about music.....and I mean all types of music and understands what a lot of people want in Gib would not go amiss. Stan and Zooney have for many years done a great job, if this was the UK they would be snapped up. Long may they continue Your Respectfully a musician of the world.

I've been trying to post the following on the "Bring back the Lord Nelson Jam" Facebook page, but I think the Chinese are on to me and censoring it. If any friends can cut and paste it on to the Jam Facebook page, please feel free to do so!
"We all, including John and Andy, owe a huge “thank you” toStan and Zooney for all they have done over several years to make the SundayJam such a success – a chance for established musicians to have a bit of fun, a fantastic opportunity for young/less experienced players to learn and develop in a supportive, friendly environment..and even the chance for the Lordy tomake a few quid on the most difficult night of the week – well done S&Z! No-one can deny the absolute right of the owners to take any commercial decision they like – but surely it would have made commercial sense to talk to the stakeholders before taking radical action – e.g. Stan and Zooney, the other musicians.. and maybe even the punters who bring their hard earned cash into the place! As Lorry wisely says, everyone felt they had a stake in making Sundays(and other nights) in the Nelson successful, and all feel let down at the arbitrary way this change has been made. BUT...the Jam is an institution.Sometimes institutions have to adapt and move on – let’s all help keep the Jam going in wherever its new home may be...and let’s keep music live!!"

GIBRALTAR TALENT UNITES TO HELP THE PEOPLE OF HAITI
A number of local production companies and artists are coming together for a unique night of solidarity and fundraising as Gibraltar aims to provide Rock Solid Support to the people of Haiti.
It is believed that at least 150,000 people lost their lives in this devastating earthquake and the survivors are in desperate need of help.
All artists, production companies and suppliers are waiving their fees which means that every single penny from ticket sales will go direct to those in need. The Ministry of Culture has also pledged its full support to this initiative.
The money raised will be donated to the appeal through the Red Cross in Gibraltar.
Artists include Andrea Simpson, Christian Santos, Illusionists brother and sister Jordan and Shailah Lopez who form ‘Faster than Magic’, Jamie Zammitt, Tiffany Ferrari, Urban Dance, Comedy with Janine Pons-Busto and special guests magicians Eliseo and Jennifer from Spain, amongst others. Broadcaster James Neish will host the show.
A spokesman said: “Gibraltar has a lot of talent and everyone has wanted to use their skills and expertise to raise money for this worthy cause. The amount of support we have received is overwhelming.”
Variety Live will be staged at the Ince’s Hall Theatre on Tuesday 9th February at 7.30pm. Tickets are on sale at MH Bland, Cloister building.
